In my artistic journey, I tell stories through my illustrations, capturing both the heard and the unheard. My work delves into everyday experiences and transcendent realms, all seen through the eyes of the divine feminine. Each piece is more than just art; it is a totem, a symbol, a sigil. Deeply rooted in the rich heritage of the Malaiyaga Tamil, my creations are a tribute to my ancestry and the enduring strength of my roots.

1. I tell stories through the work I do, I have been focused on right to land, systemic oppression to keep the tea industry going - I am talking about the Malaiyaha Tamil in my recent works, the belonging or the meaning of ‘ur’ home -
My mum is from Pusselawa and my dad is from Ginigathane, we have Indian roots, we never say we are from the hills, we always say we are from India and it’s because there is a sense of oppression and people have been uprooted from a different land. So there is a feeling of displacement. I’m trying to communicate stories through art, community and fashion
2. I have always made stuff from a young age, but it became a choice of career in 2018- 2019. I am also an architect by degree, I loved drawing comics, sketches of people, spaces, places, visualisation and meditative drawings, and fabric and stationery weaved as a better product -functional art.
4. Platforms and spaces and that is why we are building alternative spaces, third spaces, there needs to be a bridge; art is for everyone and it needs to be more community oriented where it involves more people. Folks need to get out and connect and be involved, gracefully.
5. I do a lot or a little research. My process varies. Like I said earlier, I use visualisation, research, meditation, stories. Each art piece is very different; the way of storytellers differs, yet follows a similar style or a pop of colour.
6. Art is one of the most powerful tools, we communicate through art and tell stories. It is one of the oldest forms of communication as well. We create noise, it is a voice, a loud one.
7. The future is creative expression with different forms, different methods. But as a collective we are all telling stories, we are looking back to look forward.
We should take these stories and narrate it in a way that it makes sense to people at this point by holding on yet letting go. The only way is forward by knowing we are absolutely connected to everything: We are one
8. Tell stories, stories about the people, earth something other worldly downloads. Share knowledge, learn, collaborate, empower.
9. Art in collaboration always, we can, but can’t really do everything alone and by ourselves, we need to join and hold hands to move forward. We need to collaborate.
10. I mean both are necessary, my illustrations of fabric are well thought of and conscious work and it carries energy. The work I do to release of my doubts, fears , ego, sometimes pain are for me to release, may be share about it from a mental health perspective but I don’t think I have evolved for it to be thriving outside, hope that makes sense.

நான் செய்யும் வேலையின் மூலம் கதைகளைச் சொல்கிறேன். நில உரிமை மற்றும் தேயிலைத் தொழிலின் தொடர் முறையிலான ஒடுக்குமுறை ஆகியவற்றில் கவனம் செலுத்திவருகிறேன் - மலையக தமிழைப் பற்றி எனது சமீபத்திய படைப்புகளில் 'உனது' வதிவிடம் என்ற கருப்பொருளில் அல்லது தனக்குரிய என்ற கருப்பொருளில்.
என் அம்மா புசல்லாவ பகுதியையும் அப்பா கினிகத்தன பகுதியையும் சேர்ந்தவர்கள். எங்களுக்கு இந்திய மரபுவழி உள்ளதால் நாம் மலையகத்தில் இருந்து வந்தவர்கள் என்று சொல்வதில்லை, மாறாக நாம் எப்போதும் இந்தியாவை சேர்ந்தவர்கள் என்றே கூறுவோம். ஏனென்றால், அடக்குமுறை உணர்வு இருப்பதாலும் மக்கள் வெவ்வேறு இடங்களிலிருந்து வரவழைக்கப்பட்டதாலும் ஆகும். அதனால் எமக்கு இடப்பெயர்ச்சி உணர்வு ஏற்படுகிறது. எனவே நான் கலை, சமூகம் மற்றும் நாகரீக போக்கு (fashion) மூலம் கதைகளைத் தொடர்புகொள்ள முயற்சிக்கிறேன்.
2. உங்கள் கலை பயணம் எப்போது ஆரம்பமாகியது?
நான் எப்போதும் சிறு வயதிலிருந்தே பொருட்களைத் தயாரித்து வருகிறேன், ஆனால் அது 2018- 2019 இல் ஒரு தொழிலாக மாறியது. நான் கல்வித் தகைமைக்கு ஏற்ப ஒரு கட்டிடக் கலைஞன், ஆனால் காமிக்ஸ், மனித ஓவியங்கள், இடங்கள், காட்சிப்படுத்தல் மற்றும் தியான வரைபடங்களை வரைவது எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தது, மேலும் துணி மற்றும் எழுதுபொருட்களை ஒரு சிறந்த தயாரிப்பாக நெசவு செய்யப்படுகின்றன - செயல்பாட்டு கலை
4. எது இலங்கைப் கலைஞர்களைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்துகிறது?

நான் நிறைய அல்லது கொஞ்சம் ஆராய்ச்சி செய்வேன். எனது செயல்முறை மாறுபடும். நான் முன்பே கூறியது போல காட்சிப்படுத்தல், ஆராய்ச்சி, தியானம், கதைகள் போன்றன பயன்படுத்துவேன். ஒவ்வொரு கலையும் மிகவும் வித்தியாசமானது; கதைசொல்லிகளின் வழி வேறுபட்டாலும், ஒரே பாணி அல்லது வண்ணத்தையே பின்பற்றுகிறது.
6. இலங்கை சமூகத்திற்கு கலை ஏன் முக்கியமானது, குறிப்பாக இது போன்ற ஒரு காலத்தில்?
கலை மிகவும் சக்திவாய்ந்த கருவிகளில் ஒன்றாகும், நாம் கலை மூலம் தொடர்பு கொள்கிறோம் மற்றும் கதைகளும் சொல்கிறோம். இது பழமையான தகவல்தொடர்பு வடிவங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். நாம் ஒலியை உருவாக்குகிறோம், அது ஒரு குரல், பலத்த குரல்.
7. கலை வெளிப்பாட்டின் எதிர்காலம் எப்படி இருக்கும்?
எதிர்காலம் என்பது வெவ்வேறு வடிவங்கள், முறைகளைக் கொண்ட ஒரு கலை படைப்பு வெளிப்பாடாகும். ஆனால் நாம் ஒரு கூட்டாக அனைவரும் கதைகளைச் சொல்கிறோம், எதிர்காலத்தை நோக்கிச் செல்ல நாம் மீண்டும் எதிர்நோக்குகிறோம்.
நாம் இந்த கதைகளை எடுத்து, கைவிடாமல் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு மக்களுக்கு புரியும் வகையில் இந்த கட்டத்தில் நாம் விளங்கப்படுத்த வேண்டும். நாம் எல்லாவற்றுடனும் முற்றிலும் இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளோம் என்பதை அறிந்துகொள்வதே ஒரே வழி: நாம் அனைவரும் ஒன்றே.
8. கலைஞராகிய உங்களின் முக்கிய குறிக்கோள் என்ன?
கதை சொல்லுதல், மக்கள் பற்றிய கதைகள், லௌகீக கருத்துக்களை உலகிற்கு கொண்டுவருதல். அறிவைப் பகிர், கற்றுக்கொள், ஒத்துழை, அதிகாரமளி.
9. கலை ஒத்துழைப்பில் உங்களுக்கு நம்பிக்கை உள்ளதா அல்லது அது அவர்களின் தனிப்பட்ட படைப்பு வெளிப்பாட்டைப் பாதிக்கும் என நினைக்கிறீர்களா?
கலையை எப்பொழுதும் ஒத்துழைப்புடன் நம்மால் முடியும், ஆனால் உண்மையில் எல்லாவற்றையும் தனியாகவும் நம்மால் தனித்து செய்யவும் முடியாது. நாம் அனைவரும் கைகோர்த்து ஒன்றிணைந்து முன்னேற வேண்டும். எனவே, நாம் ஒத்துழைத்து செயற்பட வேண்டும்.
10. பயனுள்ள கலை என்றால் என்ன: தூய உணர்ச்சிபூர்வமான வெளிப்பாடு அல்லது உணர்வுபூர்வமான வேலை?
இரண்டும் அவசியம் என்றே நான் சொல்வேன், துணியில் வரையப்படும் எனது விளக்கப்படங்கள் நன்கு உணர்ச்சிப்பூர்வமான மற்றும் உணர்வுபூர்வமான வேலையாக திகழ்வதோடு, அது ஒரு சக்தியையும் உள்ளடக்கியுள்ளது. எனது சந்தேகம், அச்சம், அகந்தை, சில சமயங்களில் வலி போன்றவற்றை போக்குவதற்காகவே எனது படைப்பு அமைந்தது. ஒருவேளை இதை மனநலக் கண்ணோட்ட ரீதியில் பகிரலாம். இது வெளி உலகை மெருகூட்ட நான் உருவாக்கினேன் என்று நான் நினைக்கவில்லை, ஆனால் அது அர்த்தமுள்ளதாக இருக்கும் என்று நம்புகிறேன்.
