What are your thoughts on Activism and Art?
Art is a powerful force which can fuel up activism in creative ways. With sharp strategies, artivism can address various issues (social, environmental, political etc.) and act as a tool for the betterment of the society.
How will you integrate the monetary support and what you learned at the workshop into your artwork?
Creating art in different forms focusing on the necessary social issues which need to be thoroughly addressed. As a follow- through, collaborating with the artivist culture who is actively engaging in artivism in the digital space and real world.
What is holding back Sri Lankan creatives?
In my opinion, the social system itself acts as a barrier for creativity in Sri Lanka. Majority of the families have to struggle to live a decent life which puts all the other things as a secondary option. On the other hand, people who are practicing artivism have an underground culture which needs to go mainstream just to make sure enough people hear their effort. As previously said, the audience of the artivists are the people who are constantly undergoing social and political issues. So if the artists want to grab the struggling society’s attention and let them know that they have a huge backing from the artists, the artivist culture needs to go mainstream in the real world and in the digital media and make sure that they give the message correctly.
What is your major goal as an artist?
Become a professional filmmaker and express my imaginations and ideas to a vast audience.
How important is community to you?
Community consists of a variety of creative people with different and unique ideas who can contribute to any ongoing issue in many different forms. In order to let the target audience know what the primary goals of the artivists community is, the whole community has to go mainstream and first, try to make a clear understanding about the ultimate goals which are ‘why-and-how’ to every artist. Then the contributing artists can have a clear idea about why-and-how their effort is being used for the betterment of the society which can make a huge impact similar to the contribution artivists had for the protest movements in Sri Lanka.
Are you willing to collaborate with other artists for societal change?

கலை என்பது ஒரு பலம்வாய்ந்த சக்தியாகும், இது ஆக்கப்பூர்வமான வழிகளில் கலைத்திறன் செயல்பாட்டைத் (activism) தூண்டும். கலைத்திறனை சரியான உத்திகளுடன் பல்வேறு பிரச்சினைகளை (சமூக, சுற்றுச்சூழல், அரசியல் போன்றன) தீர்க்க முடியும் மற்றும் சமூகத்தின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கான ஒரு கருவியாகவும் செயல்படுத்த முடியும்.
2. பண உதவி மற்றும் பயிற்சிப்பட்டறையில் நீங்கள் கற்றுக்கொண்டவற்றை உங்கள் கலைப்படைப்பில் எவ்வாறு ஒருங்கிணைப்பீர்கள்?
முக்கியமான சமூகப் பிரச்சினைகளை முழுமையாகக் வெளிப்படுத்தக்கூடிய பல்வேறு வடிவங்களில் கலையை உருவாக்குதல். மேலும், தொழில்நுட்ப உலகில் (digital space) மற்றும் நிஜ உலகில் கலைத்திறனில் தீவிரமாக ஈடுபடும் கலைஞர் கலாச்சாரத்துடன் ஒத்துழைத்து செயற்படுதல்.
3. இலங்கைப் கலைஞர்களைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்துவது எது?
எனது கருத்துப்படி, இலங்கையில் படைப்பாற்றலுக்கு சமூக அமைப்பே ஒரு தடையாக செயல்படுகிறது. பெரும்பாலான குடும்பங்கள் ஒழுக்கமான வாழ்க்கையை வாழ போராட வேண்டியுள்ளது, இது மற்ற அனைத்தையும் இரண்டாம் நிலை விருப்பமாக தள்ளி வைக்கப்படுகிறது. மறுபுறம், கலைத்திறனைப் பயிற்சி செய்பவர்கள் அவர்களின் முயற்சியை போதுமான மக்களுக்கு சென்றடைகிறதா என்பதை உறுதிப்படுத்த முக்கிய தளங்களுக்கு எமது படைப்புகளை எடுத்து செல்ல வேண்டும் என்ற ஒரு அடிப்படை கலாச்சாரத்தைக் கொண்டுள்ளனர். முன்பு கூறியது போல், கலைஞர்களின் பார்வையாளர்களே சமூக மற்றும் அரசியல் பிரச்சினைகளை தொடர்ந்து அனுபவிக்கும் சமூகம். எனவே கலைஞர்கள், போராட்டத்தின் மத்தியிலுள்ள சமுதாயத்தின் கவனத்தை ஈர்த்து, கலைஞர்களின் பெரும் ஆதரவைப் பெற்றிருப்பதை அவர்களுக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்த வேண்டுமானால், கலைஞர்களின் கலாச்சாரமானது நிஜ உலகிலும் டிஜிட்டல் ஊடகங்களிலும் முக்கிய தளங்களுக்கு சென்று அவர்களது கருத்துக்களை சரியாக வழங்குவதை உறுதி செய்ய வேண்டும்.
4. ஒரு கலைஞராக உங்கள் முக்கிய குறிக்கோள் என்ன?
ஒரு தொழில்முறை திரைப்பட தயாரிப்பாளராகி, எனது கற்பனைகளையும் யோசனைகளையும் பரந்த பார்வையாளர்களுக்கு வெளிப்படுத்துதல்.
5. சமூகம் உங்களுக்கு எவ்வளவு முக்கியமானது?
சமூகம் என்பது பல்வேறு வடிவங்களில் நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் எந்தவொரு பிரச்சினைக்கும் பங்களிக்கக்கூடிய பல்வேறு மற்றும் தனித்துவமான யோசனைகளைக் கொண்ட பல்வேறு படைப்பாற்றல் நபர்களைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. கலைஞர் சமூகத்தின் முதன்மையான குறிக்கோள்கள் என்ன என்பதை முக்கிய பார்வையாளர்களுக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்த, ஒட்டுமொத்த சமூகமும் பிரதான வலைத்தளங்களிற்கு செல்ல வேண்டும், முதலில், ஒவ்வொரு கலைஞருக்கும் 'ஏன் மற்றும் எப்படி' என்ற இறுதி இலக்குகளைப் பற்றிய தெளிவான புரிதலை ஏற்படுத்திக்கொள்ள முயற்சிக்க வேண்டும். இலங்கையில் போராட்ட இயக்கங்களுக்கு கலைஞர்கள் வழங்கிய பங்களிப்பைப் போன்றே பாரிய தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தக்கூடிய சமூகத்தின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்காக கலைஞர்களின் முயற்சி ஏன் மற்றும் எவ்வாறு பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது என்பது பற்றி பங்களிக்கும் கலைஞர்களுக்கு தெளிவான யோசனை இருக்க முடியும்.
